Q&A

Why raised beds?

Optimize sunlight and soil. Place perfectly-proportioned beds in the best position for sunlight and fill with the exact soil mix your plants need.

Steady the elements. Raised beds warm earlier and drain better than Northern Virginia's clay-heavy ground soil, and hold temperature and moisture better than pots.

Tend and protect with ease. Tend your plants more comfortably with less bending, plus easier protections for pests and extreme weather.

What can I plant in a raised bed?

Almost anything you'd grow in the ground — vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, beans, brassicas, root crops), herbs, berries, cut flowers, etc., all thrive in the favorable raised bed conditions.

How much does it cost?

Installing and filling a bed starts at $500, and varies by bed type, size, and soil type.

How long does installation take?

After we've acquired materials, most beds install in a single day. Larger projects with multiple beds, drip irrigation, and critter protection can take 2–3 days.

When do you install?

Year-round, weather permitting. The two prime windows are March through June and September through mid-November, when the soil is workable and you can plant right after install.

Mild weather installs outside of these windows are possible as well as long as you protect the soil. Frozen ground and saturated post-storm soil requires rescheduling.

Ready when you are.
